Convocation 2014 – 2nd Annual Convocation – PGDM Batch (2012 – 14)

A convocation (from the Latin convocare meaning “to call/come together”, a translation of the Greek ?????s?a ekklesia) is a group of people formally assembled for a special purpose. This special purpose is to celebrate the hard work by the students and faculty in the two years extensive and fruitful journey of Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) of Durgadevi Saraf Institute of Management Studies (DSIMS) approved by AICTE. Convocation ceremony represent one of those luminal moments in a student%u2019s life, a threshold moment, where they pass between two states of being.

The second convocation of the PGDM of the Durgadevi Saraf Institute of Management Studies, one of the fastest growing management institutes in the western suburbs of Mumbai was held on the 2nd May 2014. The Convocation Speaker was Dr. Snehalata Shamrao Deshmukh, an eminent paediatric surgeon and Dhanwantri Award winner. She was the Vice Chancellor of University of Mumbai from 1995 to 2000. The other dignitaries included Mr. Ashok Saraf, Chairman DSIMS and President Rajasthani Sammelan, Esteemed Members of the Trust, Head of Institutes, Special Invitees, all the Visiting Faculties and Family Members of Graduating Students. Dr. Sharad Kumar, the Officiating Director of DSIMS presented the director’s report covering the activities of the entire year.The ceremony started with Dr. Sharad Kumar welcoming the guests. He presented the director’s report and elucidated the philosophy of the institute and the special initiatives taken by the institute to develop job ready managers, who have the right skills, attitude, humility and social consciousness.

After the Director’s report, the second graduating batch of the Post Graduate Diploma in Management were conferred diplomas by Dr. Snehalata Shamrao Deshmukh. The Student of the Year award for PGDM 2012-14 batch went to Mr. Kamlesh Pithadia. This was followed by the presentation of the MMS Certificates to the second batch of MMS students by Mr. Ashok Saraf. The Outstanding Student Award in MMS went toMs. Megha Agarwal.

Mr. Ashok Saraf elaborated about the contribution and growth of Rajasthani Sammelan in the field of education and expressed his satisfaction about the achievements of DSIMS. He emphasized the importance of Time Management for the young generation. He encouraged the students to make a significant contribution to the society.

Dr. Snehalata Shamrao Deshmukh, in her convocation address lucidly stressed the importance of humility and social cause. While exhorting the students to work hard, she shared the mantra that God have made everyone equal yet special. It%u2019s our own perception that creates complex situations. He have gifted all of us some talent. We all are unique in our way but at the end of the day the person who is remembered is the one who respects all and is humble enough by nature. There are people who have pride of being either very rich or having good looks. But the richness is the golden heart that we posses and bring happiness in other people%u2019s life. The people who feel superior of certain thing, actually forgets that there is only God who is larger than anyone else in the world. She related this thought to the Story of Little Finger.

She also emphasized on educating the girl child and inspired all to make a difference to the world through awareness of and contribution to social welfare. She motivated the students to gain wisdom through experience and knowledge as that will linger on for life.?

The passing out students were administered the MBA oath where in they have pledged that they will conduct themselves with highest degree of ethics, integrity and social responsibility.

The Valedictorian Speech was delivered by Mr. Kamlesh Pithadia where he shared his reminiscences of the learning and experiences in DSIMS.

The Ceremony was concluded with the address of PGDM Chairperson Ms. Kusum Pawar where she congratulated the students on the significant achievement of their life
